The Global South WASH Financing and Sustainability Conference 2026 invites practitioners, policy makers, private sectors, researchers and innovators to submit abstracts for oral presentations, posters, and panel discussions.

This conference will address the critical financing gaps in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services across the Global South, with a focus on sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient solutions. Abstracts should highlight real-world financing approaches, research insights, or innovative practices that contribute to stronger WASH systems.

Themes for Abstract Submission

Abstracts should align with one or more of the following six themes:
01 – WASH Financing Bottleneck Assessment & Opportunities
WASH financing bottleneck assessment for resource planning, mobilization and use for increased efficiency and effectiveness. Exploring bottlenecks and opportunities for sustainable financing of WASH systems and services -including capacity building- alongside assessing WASH financing needs and evaluating investment mechanisms and practices.
02 – Public Leadership, Decision Making & WASH Financing Reform
Government-led high-impact public investments in WASH, smarter utilization, national systems strengthening, cross-sector collaboration, and accountability for results at country and regional level.
03 – Market linkage, Blended finance & Private-Sector Solutions for WASH Services
Market-driven, innovative and breakthrough business models supported by circular economy approaches, smart hygiene solutions, and blended public-private-donor financing to meet the spending gap and scale services.
04 – Climate and Disaster Resilient WASH Services Financing ensuring Sustainability and Equity
Financing strategies that embed climate adaptation, DRR, and long-term water security into WASH planning and implementation portfolio. Process to tap climate fund such as GCF, Loss & Damage Fund etc.
05 – Urban WASH System Innovation, Affordability & Sustainability (SDGs 2030 and Beyond)
Building financially resilient cities and utilities, guiding smart investment using transformative technologies, and charting clear pathways for reliable, modern, innovative and future-ready urban WASH services, encompassing post 2030 scenario.
06 – Strengthening Local Governance Through WASH
Innovative local government financing strategies, performance-driven service improvements, and external support models that strengthen WASH ecosystems within the jurisdiction.

Review Process

All abstracts will be reviewed by an expert committee. Selected authors will be invited to submit a full paper and present their work during the conference.

Presentation Formats

  • Oral Presentations: 15–20 minutes plus Q&A, highlighting key findings, policy implications, and practical relevance.
  • Poster Sessions: Portrait posters summarizing research, case studies, or innovative practices, with dedicated viewing times for discussion.
  • Panel Discussions / Workshops: 60–90 minute interactive sessions with 3–5 panelists, focusing on thematic debates, policy dialogues, or skill-building workshops.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts must be written in English, no longer than 300 words.
  • Include a title, author(s), affiliation(s), and contact information.
  • Clearly specify the theme your abstract addresses.
  • Abstracts must be original and not previously published.
  • Submit via the official conference website: gswashfinance.org (submissions via email will not be accepted).
  • Deadline: 25 December 2025. 
  • Only accepted abstracts & full papers will be included in the final programme.
