BEST PRACTICES on WASH Financing & Sustainability

The Global South WASH Financing & Sustainability Conference 2026 invites government leaders, practitioners, policymakers, private sector leaders, financiers, and development partners to share Best Practices that showcase innovative financing approaches for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) from their experience and practices.

This is your opportunity to highlight how financing solutions have strengthened WASH systems, mobilized investments, and improved service sustainability in low- and middle-income contexts. 

What We’re Looking For

Case studies should align with one or more of the conference themes:
01 – WASH Financing Bottleneck Assessment & Opportunities
WASH financing bottleneck assessment for resource planning, mobilization and use for increased efficiency and effectiveness. Exploring bottlenecks and opportunities for sustainable financing of WASH systems and services -including capacity building- alongside assessing WASH financing needs and evaluating investment mechanisms and practices.
02 – Public Leadership, Decision Making & WASH Financing Reform
Government-led high-impact public investments in WASH, smarter utilization, national systems strengthening, cross-sector collaboration, and accountability for results at country and regional level.
03 – Market Linkage, Blended Finance & Private-Sector Solutions for WASH Services
Market-driven, innovative and breakthrough business models supported by circular economy approaches, smart hygiene solutions, and blended public-private-donor financing to meet the spending gap and scale services.
04 – Climate and Disaster Resilient WASH Services Financing ensuring Sustainability and Equity
Financing strategies that embed climate adaptation, DRR, and long-term water security into WASH planning and implementation portfolio. Process to tap climate fund such as GCF, Loss & Damage Fund etc.
05 – Urban WASH System Innovation, Affordability & Sustainability (SDGs 2030 and Beyond)
Building financially resilient cities and utilities, guiding smart investment using transformative technologies, and charting clear pathways for reliable, modern, innovative and future-ready urban WASH services, encompassing post 2030 scenario.
06 – Strengthening Local Governance Through WASH
Innovative local government financing strategies, performance-driven service improvements, and external support models that strengthen WASH ecosystems within the jurisdiction.

Submissions may come from:
  • Public Sector Financing & Governance: National or local governments, municipalities, and utilities implementing equitable, climate-resilient financing practices.
  • Private Sector Engagement & Innovation: Enterprises and corporations developing sustainable business models that balance profitability with inclusive access.
  • Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs): Collaborative initiatives where governments and private actors jointly design, finance, and deliver WASH services, leveraging shared resources, risk-sharing mechanisms, and innovative financing models to expand sustainable access.
  • Development Partner & Donor-Funded Programs: Partners supporting scalable, climate-smart, and equity-driven financing approaches, including blended finance and catalytic funding.

Review Process

All submissions will be reviewed by the expert committee. Selected authors will be invited to submit a full paper and present their work at the conference.

Presentation Formats

  • Oral Presentations: 15–20 minutes plus Q&A, highlighting key findings and policy implications.
  • Poster Sessions: Portrait posters summarizing case studies, with dedicated viewing times and author interaction.
  • Panel Discussions / Workshops: 60–90 minute interactive sessions with 3–5 panelists, focusing on thematic debates, policy dialogues, or skill-building.

Submission Guidelines

  • Written in English, maximum 500 words.
  • Please use the official template available on the submission portal.
  • Demonstrate measurable impact on service reliability, climate resilience, equity, or financial performance.
  • Highlight contributions to innovation, resilience, and equity.
  • Share practical experiences and lessons learned.
  • Please uphold ethical practices, including privacy protections and responsible use of data.
  • Align with at least one conference theme.
  • Eligible submissions: governments, municipalities, utilities, private enterprises, financiers, development partners, and community-driven organizations across the Global South.
  • Deadline: 25 December 2025.
